Small Introduction to CSC:
Computer Science Corporation is a U.S. based organization which
comes under top 500 fortune companies of the world. It was established in the
year of 1959 by Roy Nutt, Fletcher R. Jones and Bob Patrick. The current
president and CEO of the company is John Michael Lawrie. The annual revenue of
the company is US $ 15 billion in the financial year 2013 and there are about
98000 employees in the company.
CSC campus placement process: CSC recruits most of the fresher
through campus placement. If the campus is good then CSC recruits in bulk (30
to 40 candidates) otherwise it recruits only 10 to 15 candidates from a
college. From our college (MSIT New Delhi) CSC
recruited 34 candidates from 2013 batch and the same number of
candidates from 2012 batch. Therefore if you are not placed till CSC visits
your campus, CSC is great opportunity for you. The initial salary package given
by company is 3.27 lakhs per annum. And if you get placed in CSC there are a
lot of switching options for you because CSC works in multiple domains.
Rounds in CSC placement
process:
To get selected in CSC you have to pass 4 rounds. My seniors used
to say there are 6 to 7 rounds in the CSC placement process but in our time
(2013 batch) there were only 4. There is one round that is very horrible and
difficult to clear (I will tell you later).
The 4 rounds are as follows:
1. Written test: this is the first round of CSC and is very easy to
clear. There are three parts of written test. The first one is quantitative
aptitude, 2nd is technical and the 3rd one is essay
writing.
Quantitative Aptitude-very simple questions based on topics like
work and time, proportion and all that. Prepare from R.S Aggarwal books, there
are 40 questions and 40 minutes are allowed.
Technical – very basic questions based on DBMS, C, OOPS and data structure. No. questions are 70 and time allowed is 75 minutes.
Essay writing- out of four topics you have to select one and write on it for 10 minutes.
There are very fundamental questions in written test and if you are not an idiot you can easily qualify the written test. CSC selects a lot of candidates in the first round. In our time (2013 batch) there were 126 candidates who were selected out of a total number of 250 candidates. So don’t worry for the written test. For the essay I would say whatever you write in essay write it point wise and remember whatever you have written because this will help you in the JAM session.
2. The horrible round- JAM session: JAM means just a minute
session. In this session you have to speak on a topic for a minute. Generally
the topic is same as whatever you have written in the essay. Therefore it is
very important to remember what you have written in your essay. This is a big
elimination round. Around 50 to 60 % candidates get eliminated in this round.
Girls have the advantages in this round but if you don’t speak up you can’t
clear this round. My only tip is to speak something in this round without any
hesitation. If you show confidence in this round then you are almost selected
in CSC.
3. Interviews: after the JAM session there are two
interviews technical and HR round. In the technical round very simple and basic
questions are asked. Nobody is going to check your communication skills at this
round. Therefore brush up your concepts for the CSC technical interview. In the
technical interview, the questions regarding the company profile, current CEO,
current projects and revenue of the company are asked. Therefore prepare for
these questions by visiting company website.
After technical there comes HR round. In HR round your confidence
level is checked. Simple question about your life, hobbies and whatever you
have written in CV are asked. This round is just a formality, if you can
clear JAM session you can clear this session too. The only way you get
eliminated in this round if you speak lie to the interviewer. Therefore don’t
lie to the interviewer.
The only difficulty in CSC placement process is that JAM session.
Therefore prepare for that one minute and speak something in that one minute.
